What:
Contact Camp is a five day contact camp focused on
tackle football fundamentals including blocking,
tackling, footwork, passing, catching and rules of the
game. Guest speakers will emphasize the importance of
academics, responsible behavior and team concepts. The
Contact Camp is powered and administrated by the
Rockville Football League.
Who The We
Hit Camp is designed for players of all levels from
first timers to experienced veterans. Special
attention and daily drills are paid to first time tackle
players making this a terrific opportunity for players
putting on a helmet for the first time and making the
transition from Flag to Tackle. We Hit will give
the new players and experienced players a real advantage
in the Fall. Special attention is also devoted to
players who will be starting High School in the Fall.
The transition from Youth Football to JV or Freshman is
a major step. Spending a week or two with our High
School coaching staff is the best preparation they can
get.
Where:
Contact Camp will be held at the RFL facility at Mattie
Stepanek Park in King Farm. The facility includes two
lighted football fields, large practice field,
comfortable spectator bleachers, full service snack bar
and permanent, maintained restrooms. The Park is easily
accessed from the Shady Grove exit off I270 or from Rt
355. Children's playground, basketball courts, tennis
courts and a dog park are also available. The Park is a
state of the art facility with excellent parking.
When:
The First Session of Contact Camp is scheduled for June
27-July 1. The Second Session is July 5-9. Both
Sessions are from 5:30 to 8:30 each evening.
Registration for both session will open on February 20.
A link on the RFL web site www.rfl.cc will take you to
the registration area.
Cost:
The Camp fee is $325.00 plus a $40.00 equipment rental
fee for those that do not have helmet and shoulder pads.
If a camper played in the RFL in 2009 or has registered
to play in 2011 the discounted fee is
$295.00
and equipment is at no charge. Group rates are
available. Email Camp@rfl.cc for more information.
Camp Coaches:
The Camp Staff will be comprised of Montgomery County
and area private school head coaches and assistants.
Current college and recent high school graduate football
players will serve as instructor assistants. Current
RFL coaches will also be given an opportunity to spend
at least one session working on the field with the High
School coaches and the players they will be coaching in
the fall.
Groups:
Camp attendees will be grouped by age and where possible
by experience within an age group. The age groups will
approximate the RFL fall tackle divisions. While there
will be no weight requirements players that know they
will be playing in a heavier age weight group will have
the choice of being placed in that group.
Safety:
There will be special attention paid to hydration and
frequent water/rest breaks. While the 5:30 PM start
time makes it easier for most families to attend the
camp it also reduces physical activity during the
hottest part of the day. Parents should be aware that
if it starts to rain heavily or there is thunder or
lightening in the area they must pick up their player
immediately. Unfortunately there is no shelter in case
of sudden weather conditions.
Daily Schedules:
Daily
schedules will include appropriate warm-up and
stretching, speed and agility drills, basic tackling,
blocking, catching and defensive instruction and
drills. Advanced techniques including position specific
footwork, lineman hand and body moves, ball carrying,
defensive back, linebacker and QB skills. 7 on 7 and 11
on 11 execution and scrimmage. Motivational and
character speakers and discussions will also be
conducted.
